AI is coming on strong, or so we are led to believe. It is infiltrating daily life and is affecting how work is being done. Many employers are stopping hiring or laying off people because they think AI can do the work. Let’s park our skepticism and accept that AI will have some effect, possibly a huge one, on employment and as a result on how the overall economy and finance work. This raises several questions:
- Overall, how will the AI economy work in a macro sense?
- Who will continue to have a job and who won’t?
- How will unemployed people cope?
- How will governments continue to get necessary taxes?
- How will the wealth created by AI be allocated?
- Will society be able to handle the even greater inequality created by AI?
- Will the AI investment craze create a devastating financial crash?
- Will the AI economy create political dictatorships? Can democracy survive AI?
We’ll consider these questions and what we should be demanding our politicians do about them
