Healthcare: Politics, Power and the Consumer

Things are changing at an unprecedented rate in healthcare. This is an opportunity to share some facts and to dig deeper into discussion on possible consequences of these changes. Book now!

Course Description:
Healthcare is critically important to all of us. Unfortunately, it seems to be in a constant state of crisis, with resources never able to keep pace with demand.
  • Yet dramatic new ideas and models are emerging, in particular a shift in power to the consumer from the providers.
  • In this course, we will explore developments such as the "expert patient" who is able to direct his/her care; partnerships between patients and providers; the use of mobile technology and "apps" by healthcare consumers; the power of culture in healthcare; how social media can enable patients to network with other patients to learn about their condition.....and more.
  • Course participants will come away  with an understanding of an emerging social movement sweeping through healthcare and how it might affect all of us.
  • In-class course material will be provided.
