Our Fall Courses

Is it worth getting old?Is it appropriate? Should it even be allowed?

Course full. To go onto the waiting list, please e-mail us at [email protected]

The ageing population is going to have a huge impact.  It already is, but it's going to  get far more extreme. In this course we’ll examine what the ageing of our society means, economically, sociologically and politically, and what strategies are being adopted, could be adopted and should be adopted. We’ll specifically look at Japan and Italy where the ageing “wave” has already crashed, and consider what Canada should do about it because it’s coming, like it or not.

The  BRICS: A changing world order
or an irrelevancy?

Course full. To go onto the waiting list, please e-mail us at [email protected]

The BRICS just had their 17th summit with 10 member nations, 9 partner nations and another 18 nations and several global institutions present. Looks important, but is it? The BRICS was created in 2009 as an informal grouping of four emerging economies to act as a counter-weight to the Western-dominated world order, both politically and economically. The big question is whether the BRICS can really shift the global balance of power and what that would mean. Can the U.S./Trump prevent the grouping’s rise? Should we in Canada welcome or fear the BRICS? See a more detailed course description Here

Where could it go? What are the benefits and risks for society? Should crypto be in your life? In this course we’ll take a hard look as crypto and digital currencies to answer those questions.

Can the left recover? Should it?

Course full. To go onto the waiting list, please e-mail us at [email protected]

In almost every advanced democracy the left is in retreat and has been for decades. It’s just more pronounced now. How can the left come back?  People want politics that make their lives meaningfully better, not neo-liberalism with a smiley face. Can the left come up with policies that deliver real change? We’ll look at what the left has to do to regain relevance, in Canada and elsewhere. See a more detailed course description Here
