universal basic income - embrace it or fear it?

Most economic and social analysts see robots and artificial intelligence reducing work by humans dramatically in coming decades. If there are few jobs how will people have the income required to live a decent life? One policy response to this is a Universal Basic Income distributed to everybody. Proponents see this as the only practical solution, freeing people from the drudgery of work and enabling everyone to have a fulfilled life. Others see Universal Basic Income as a tool for governments to wipe out most existing social and economic distribution programs, and achieve a worrying level of control over the population. They also fear that this minimum income will be small – enough to survive but not much more. Is a Universal Basic Income something that we should embrace or fear?
