the People Vs The Corps

Does anyone seriously doubt that large corporations have too much power? Huge profits are being earned at the expense of social justice and the environment, often
with the complicity of governments. The economic system is set up to make it so.
New trade agreements such as the TPP will, if implemented, further erode the ability of governments to protect their citizens and the environment. Global supply chains
controlled by large corporations skim huge profits off the top of every product you and I buy. You may say “Wasn’t it always so?”. The answer is “Not remotely to the degree it is now.”
Why does Obama so desperately want the TPP to go through? Who is pulling the strings? Will this and other trade agreements really diminish our sovereignty? What is the alternative to corporate supply chains that bring most goods to our door? Is a 'shadow economy’ emerging that will change the game? Can people in poor countries take greater control over their resources and by-pass the global supply chains? Will new global development banks such as the Asian Infrastructure Development Bank take power away from the existing corporate networks?
In this course we ill look at how shifts in global power, new technologies and grassroots politics are undermining the power of large corporations, bringing greater balance into our economic system, sharing the spoils more fairly. Come away with an understanding of the mega-systems & how they can be changed.
