Will the U.S. election change anything?
No-one in their right minds wants Trump to be re-elected. At least that’s the view of fake liberals like the New Yorkers who have spent the lockdown in their second homes in the Hamptons, leaving poorer New Yorkers to die. But they really believe they are liberals despite not really wanting improvement in the lot of the less advantaged. I digress. This is an important election, some people think. Others think it will change little in the overall trajectory of the United States to imperial declining decline. Maybe domestic policies will change if Biden gets elected, but will the American elites really allow progressive policies to be enacted on climate change, rampant inequality and racism? In this course we’ll look at the implications of a Trump victory and a Biden victory and in the final week, after the election, do a post-mortem, based on the details of the outcome – how big the win for Trump or Biden, the geographic and demographic breakdown of the vote, and the reaction to the result in the U.S. and globally.
