Happiness Matters!
Enrol at the bottom of this page, starting 9:00 AM on April 7
The World Happiness Report is changing the conversation about human progress. The message of the 2022 Report is: that the true measure of progress is the Happiness/Wellbeing (H/W) of the people; that H/W can be measured; that we know a lot about what causes it, and that we can implement policies to enhance it. The World Happiness Report is referred to widely, and it is now mentioned twice as often (in books) as is the phrase 'Beyond GDP', which is also on a rapidly rising trajectory.

- in this course we'll look at the emerging Science of Happiness and it's influence on cost-benefit analyses of government sector policies. Nearly all OECD countries measure happiness of their people annually. EU countries are asked to put well-being at the heart of policy design.
- In addition to discussing the global goal of increasing H/W, we’ll dig into a barrier to this global goal in the form of the crisis in capitalism and the proposed solution of a ‘mission economy’ as described by Mariana Mazzucato. In 2021, Mazzucato advised on B.C.’s "Economic Plan: Building an economy that works for everyone".
