Iran – The Evil, Dangerous and radical Enemy of All That is Good….Really??
Course Full. To go Onto Waiting List, please e-mail us at [email protected]
Since the Islamic Revolution in 1979, we have been led to believe that Iran is possibly the most radical country on the planet. They supposedly sponsor terrorism, want to wipe Israel off the map and want nuclear weapons to wield power over all around them. They even support Bashar al-Assad!! How could any responsible nation or person support such a country??
Of course there is another side to all of this. The Persians were a great civilization while most of our ancestors were still in the trees. They represent an oppressed branch of Islam, and they were colonized by Western governments and oil companies for decades while corrupt leaders, put in place by the West, got obscenely rich. Should they have been expected to continue to kowtow to the Sunnis and the West indefinitely? The revolution was a logical response.
In this course we will look at Iran from various perspectives – its history, internal politics, culture, economy and geopolitical objectives. In particular we’ll look at the context of the current Middle Eastern struggle for power and what is really at stake in Iran’s dealings with its neighbours and the West.
