A large number of politicians, academics, policy makers, business consultants, & writers still believe that globalization will persist in more or less the same fashion, or better. But economics is running into the reality of a more fractured, multipolar world. New, "radical" political parties are in the process of being created. And many of the international institutions of the twentieth century are becoming redundant as new formations of nations & new institutional arrangements are springing up.
Countries (& companies too) are beginning to focus on stable, organic growth—growth that comes from factors such as the skill base of the local labor market, innovation, & technology, and the system of laws & institutions that form the backbone of a nation.
Discussion Question: What Is the future for open societies trading "freely", with authoritarian countries under state capitalism?
