The Nordics: a rebalncing ideal or a model under threat?
COURSE SOLD OUT, TO GO ON WAITING LIST, PLEASE SEND US AN E-MAIL AT LEARNINGEXPERIENCES@BELL.NET
The Nordic countries have long been held out as the model for the rest of us: strong social programs, a high level of equality, an outstanding environmental record, as well as being business friendly.
Also, they are an example to the world in their contributions to international development & acceptance of immigrants from Bosnia, Iraq, and most recently, Syria. They have done all of this while maintaining public debt at acceptable levels, even if they are not quite as good as they were.
However, not all is rosy. Populist-Right parties are growing with neoliberal agendas to reverse some progressive policies. Large-scale immigration of Muslims and the perceived financial threat this poses to social programs for the ageing population may be fuelling divisions in these consensus driven countries.
Is the Nordic model exportable? is it even sustainable? Or is it going to prove unable to withstand the strain of a new world of mass migration and the rise of populism? Find out by booking your spot
