nukes or no nukes?
It's almost certain that the world will not be able to implement renewable energy to replace fossil fuels quickly enough to avert climate disaster. Some, including prominent environmentalists, are calling for a rapid expansion of nuclear energy, which emits no greenhouse gases. They believe this is the only way to get out of fossil fuels quickly enough. Others see nuclear energy as a serious danger given past incidents at Chernobyl and Fukushima. Nuclear proponents counter that the new generation of nuclear reactors is safe. Do we hold our noses and go big on nukes or do we steer clear, knowing the safety risks? Which is the bigger risk? Dying of floods and heat, or nuclear radiation?
