The attacks in Paris on November 13 shocked us all. The immediate global reaction of revulsion has evolved into an urgent need to stop ISIS in particular, and Islamist terrorism in general. But is that possible, and if so how? Is bombing the answer or will it make matters worse? Do we also or alternatively need to deal with root causes? Do Western nations need to take hard look at the historical roots of the deep dissatisfaction of much of the Islamic world? In light of that, what is the right long-term strategy, not just the immediate response? What about Canada? Should we be going ahead full-speed with refugee intake? Should we have pulled our jets out of the coalition? What constructive role can our new government play in dealing with the underlying issues? We will look at the bigger picture in this brief but fast-paced discussion. We will share the thinking of leading global security and foreign policy analysts and then throw it open for discussion.
