tribalism returns
COURSE FULL. TO GO ONTO THE WAITING LIST, PLEASE E-MAIL US AT [email protected]
Deep down most of us are tribal. For a while it seemed that humanity had largely got past that. Liberal democracy and enlightened capitalism had made most people safer, healthier, better educated and more prosperous. Most global issues were decided multilaterally based on facts and rules. That was nice but it’s over. Now, every nation is looking out for its own interests in ways not seen for several decades. Every political group retreats into its own corner. Leavers and Remainers; Democrats and Republicans; climate change believers and deniers. Politics, both domestically and internationally has become deeply tribal. It’s a zero sum game of winners and losers. Does it mean a breakdown of trust at all levels? Does this mean more wars? Is our world going to splinter into like-minded groups? Will cities become even more segregated? Will next generations only ever see people who look and think like them? What will stop this trend?
